                                                       GONE FISH-IN

Just a quick comment on the previous post.  The Beaver was doing a step turn while taking off from the Misty Fjords when he lost control and the wing hit the water. Luckily he cut the power and pulled back on the wheel before the floats dug in and caused a cartwheel.  No one was injured or even shaken up. The airplane was towed back to Ketchikan for repair.

Nancy went back home on the 4TH for a wedding and see the kids.  I was planning to go along but was unable to in part to the incident in the Fjords.

The weather here has been great so I decided to take advantage of it.  I took the PA-12 on a little fishing trip with one of our pilots, Andy.  I will let the pictures do most of the talking.

Here is Andy when we were getting ready to go.

This is en-route to Smugglers Cove Lake

On the lake.

After fishing for an hour, note I didn't say catching, we decided to go to Patching Lake and see if our luck would change.

On the way we saw a whale. I got some video of it but no pictures.

When we got there we took a lunch break.

I can't think of a better place to go for lunch.

As you can see our luck did change.  I cought two Cutthroat Trout and Andy got one.  We had several bights but we didn't land them.

It was getting to be time to go so we pack up and headed out to see if we could find any goats.

A view of the mountains 10 minutes from Patching Lake and just behind Ketchikan.

It is so amazing how close we are to whales, remote lakes and the mountains.
This makes all those rainy days worth it.

See the goats?

What's Wrong With This Picture?

We don't know if this made the news, but I just wanted to let you all know that Dan was NOT flying this airplane. One of the Taquan pilots had an incident upon take off in the Misty Fjords yesterday. The very good news is that absolutely no one got hurt. The pilot taxied over to a boat dock, unloaded passengers who then got on different Taquan planes and made it back to KTN safely. Dan told me they were all in good spirits.

I will have Dan write more about it later. If I wrote about it now, you would be getting it second- or third-hand.
